A Century-Old Home of Agricultural Science

The story of Pusa as a seat of agricultural learning began in 1905, when the foundation stone of the Agricultural Research Institute and College was laid with the support of American philanthropist Henry Phipps Jr., establishing what would become India's first Imperial Agricultural Research Institute. Over the following century, the campus survived a major earthquake, the relocation of the central research institute to New Delhi, and eventual re-establishment as a full-fledged state agricultural university — before finally being elevated to the status of a Central Agricultural University of national importance.

Today, Dr. Rajendra Prasad Central Agricultural University carries that legacy forward as a multi-campus institution spanning Pusa, Dholi, and Piprakothi, supported by a network of Krishi Vigyan Kendras and research stations serving farmers across Bihar and the wider eastern region.

• 1905 Agricultural Research Institute and College founded at Pusa, later recognised as an Imperial institute.
• 1970 Rajendra Agricultural University (RAU) established by the Government of Bihar at Pusa.
• 2016 Elevated by Act of Parliament to Dr. Rajendra Prasad Central Agricultural University, an Institution of National Importance.
